What is Eat Well Live Well?
Eat Well Live Well is a Tiger Brands nutrition initiative that was established in 2009 and forms part of the Eat Well Live Well Institute. It is responsible for commissioning and funding the research studies and reports that underpin Tiger Brands’ commitment to helping South Africans make better food choices for a better life on any budget. Our aim is to nourish and nurture more lives every day. To do this effectively, we need to better understand and adequately inform South Africa’s nutrition choices.
Our purpose is to help South Africans make better food choices for a better life on any budget
As South Africa’s largest food manufacturer, Tiger Brands is motivated to help South Africans eat balanced and nutritious foods, while encouraging healthy eating behaviours for the overall health and wellbeing of the nation. What we eat plays a big role in our overall health.
Making healthier food choices is often perceived as being difficult, often costly and time consuming. Eat Well Live Well seeks to solve this tension by making the consumers’ journey less confusing and more empowering, so that a healthy lifestyle becomes an internalised part of their lives. At Eat Well Live Well, we want to inspire you and your family to live healthier, through a balanced diet on any budget.
Eat Well Live Well takes the guesswork out of healthy eating
When you see the Eat Well Live Well stamp of approval on selected Tiger Brands products, know that you are making better food choices for you and your family. For over a decade, Eat-Well-Live-Well-endorsed products have offered easy-to-understand guidelines of nutritional facts, so you know how well you’re eating. It tells consumers, at a glance, whether the product is either high in a nutrient they should try to increase in their diets (such as fibre, vitamins and minerals) or low in a nutrient they should try to cut down on (such as salt, added sugars and saturated fat). The Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) table found on the back of pack is also designed to easily help guide people’s nutrition journey. Eat Well Live Well nutrient criteria is guided and verified by NICUS (Nutrition Information Centre at the University of Stellenbosch).
What is The State of Nutrition in South Africa report?
This annual, independently-conducted research report aims to assist the development of a quantified South African nutrition profile that informs Eat Well Live Well. The research is undertaken among a nationally representative sample of South African consumers, as well as dieticians and nutritionists. It delves into better understanding the attitudes, awareness and behaviour of South African consumers with regards to dietary intake, nutrition and eating behaviours.
